We forgive you!

Reflecting on the causes of homelessness, I find a common denominator. Regardless of what has happened in life, each of these causes is connected to suffering and pain, to a greater or lesser extent. Homelessness is always associated with suffering and pain. Years spent on the streets, and often addiction, make these feelings less acute. But only seemingly so. A homeless person suffers not only from the lack of a roof over their head, addiction, or the loss of family and loved ones. In my experience, the greatest suffering and pain stem from the inability to forgive oneself and others. Therefore, I believe our mission cannot be limited solely to providing shelter, food, or work. We need something more: relationships, friendship, love. A person should rediscover themselves through the lens of Christ's love. We do not impose religious practices on our charges, but through merciful service, we desire them to experience the care of a Good Father.

companionship

Unfortunately, when helping people experiencing homelessness, we also expose ourselves to difficult situations. When we see someone in need and have all the necessary tools to help, we sometimes encounter refusal. Why? There can be many reasons: perhaps the pain and suffering are so immense that the person is unable to trust anyone? Perhaps addiction holds them so tightly that they are afraid to get sober?

There are also situations where a person accepts help. They finish therapy and receive shelter in our House. They have enough food. We support them fully until their first paycheck. They receive necessary food assistance, a monthly public transport pass, care from the House manager, and support from the House community. When everything starts to get better, something breaks. This person breaks their abstinence. Because of this violation, they must leave our House, which must be a safe place, and that means complete abstinence. As a result, they experience even greater pain.

suffering and pain

The first pain and suffering stem from the feeling of failure. She drank. She broke, even though she truly desired something else. The second pain and suffering comes when she has to leave the Home where she experienced care and understanding. But she knows she can return. However, she must start anew, with healing. It often happens that she doesn't want to return to therapy. Then the pain and suffering become stronger and stronger, as the loss is felt more and more. This leads to the person posting false information on social media (on our Facebook), slandering the Foundation's Board and employees.

We forgive you!

However, we know perfectly well that this person is good. We know that he doesn't really want to hurt anyone. This pain and suffering guide his entire life. He thinks that by writing about us falsely, he will vent his suffering. But in reality, it hurts even more.

This man needs only one thing: merciful love.

That is why we forgive you! And we await you with open hearts!
